You should spend the next 8 minutes of your Life watching this.

I would suggest you spend the next 8 Minutes and 42 seconds of your life watching this video, it’s THAT good.  The difference between some cool tech going “mainstream” or not is matter of affordablility, if people can afford it and it seems cool enough then you’ll see mass adoption, but enough talking, i’ll let the video “wow” you.

The Ban Was the best thing that could ever happen…

Not many realize this, but personally the Ban  on sexually explicit songs and songs promoting violence is the best thing that could ever happen to dancehall. What artists need to do is capitalize on this opportunity and push  to create clean songs, doing this will ENSURE airplay on all if not most of the radio stations.  The competition isn’t as tight now as it was a couple months ago when the Ban was not in effect, but now that it’s active, there isn’t much competition (if you listen to the radio stations you’ll realize there isn’t many new songs being played), basically because there isn’t much ‘clean’ songs to play on the radio, so most DJ’s are going retro and playing old songs, because majority of the news songs are plagued with sexual  and violent lyrics, and obviously that isn’t allowed to be broadcasted.

There’s 2 things they can do:

1. They can try and fight this decision, which they will probably will never win; wasting time not capitalizing on this opportunity  OR

2. They can go into the studios and start producing some awesome songs ( a song can still be good and not be plagued with expletives) for public consumption, it’s simple really, if your songs are clean then you’ll get airplay, majority of the dancehall artists plan to fight this and continue with the old foolish ways, but the smart ones will do what i say and capitalize on this golden opportunity.

The latter being the most logical thing to do, is the most prudent thing to do, follow these words and reap the rewards

Does Facebook Grow Friendships…?

Or any other Social Network for that matter, but for argument’s sake i’ll use Facebook as a prime example. That question has been puzzling me for a while now, and i’d love feedback on it. The things that people say to each other on Facebook  i’m skeptical about them saying it to each other face to face. The bonds that they share they’d never discuss in person, but they don’t have a problem letting the world know what they share online, some would say it’s easier to do online than it is offline, but is it really?

facebook-logo

With that said such actions impulses  have caused bonds to grow and let people realize how much they appreciate each other, what they feel is indeed mutual and Facebook seems like the safest way to say it. I’ve also come to the conclusion that Facebook is a good avenue to find out what people think of you, i know for a fact that the things said there would NEVER be uttered in person, but maybe it’s just me, maybe some people don’t have a problem letting there friend(s) know how much they mean to them whether offline or online, what about you?

How to be “in the know” on D- Day

I’m sure the whole world is anticipating the inauguration of the first Black president Barack Obama tomorrow. Obviously not all of us could be there physically, but it’s quite possible for us to be able to know what’s going on..digitally. Lifehacker thought it prudent to put together a list of sources for us to indulge tomorrow

barack-obama-capitol

Check them out here.

Most of the places i can vouch for, others i’m not sure, but seeing as it’s from lifehacker i’m sure it’s all solid, so check them out and be sure to watch amazing history unfold tomorrow.

I hate google’s new Favicon, Take 2

My first rant for 2009, why did it have to be about you Google? With your snappy ” Don’t be evil” slogan; well sorry to burst you’re bubble Mr. Sergery Brin and Larry Page, but you’re one big sack of evil right now with you new Favicon.  To some this may be trivial and geeky, but to me something as simple as a favicon means the world, call me geeky, call me picky, but I’m highly annoyed. I mean seriously, what was wrong with the original favicon?

My first rant about there idiotic first instance sad excuse for a favicon was in June of last year, they’ve come up with an even worst one since that time. There newest one, which also seems to be the final one is even WORSE, i’d feel better if they said this was not the final, but sadly it is, but such is life, i guess i’ll get used to it.  Now my tab bar is all uhm.. weirded out *sighs*googlesnewfavicon

Apparently this one incorporates all of google’s logo color scheme into it. Maybe i should stop complaining, maybe it isn’t that bad, who knows i might get used to it, but for now i hate it.

Merry Christmas – The Best of 2008

christmas-treeYikes! I could go on and on and on about how fast the year went by, but there’s no need because before i could finish I’d be going on about how fast 2009 went. 2008 was a rather fruitful year for me in terms of personal development. I finished High School, I was featured in the gleaner, then i became  apart of the gleaner, i had my first radio interview, met a lot of cool people and i developed new relationships among other things. But enough about me.

Things haven’t been all peach and roses in 2008, there have been some rather depressing times here in JA, from the spate of kidnappings, hurricane Dean… no wait was it dean or? erhm.. no wait it was Ivan *calls a friend* Oh,oh,oh it was Gustav, oh my these hurricanes have become annual annoyances occurrences it’s so hard to keep up with the names. And then there was that Head Girl’s death, such a sad time.  But it hasn’t been all bad, i recall the countless euphoric moments we all had as Jamaicans at Olympics, not necessarily a Jamaican Milestone, but the world celebrated Obama’s leap to the first black president in American History, a great moment in time, to be talked about and cherished for years to come.

I’m not one to dwell though, let’s hope for the best in 2000 and Shine! Let me dive right into the best of 2008, I’m making it a tradition here at Gordonswaby.com; last year’s selection was rather awesome, but this year is even better. Last year was the mother load, so i guess this year is the father load right? heh:

N.B Like last year stuff listed here are not necessarily created in 2008; It is all based on what i liked in that specific year.

The Best Movies of 2008

best-of-2008

#1: HARD CANDY: Definitely the BEST movie of the year, with all the kidnappings happening in Jamaica and elsewhere i would have loved to see a story like this make it to the front page of the paper, but that’s wishful thinking. A MUST watch.

Hard Candy is a 2006 independent psychological thriller film focusing on a confrontation between a sexual predator and a 14-year-old girl he attempts to ensnare. Source: Wikipedia

#2: DARK KNIGHT: Heath Ledger? Can you say best actor of ALL TIME, in all honesty his superb acting in Dark Knight is tempting me to go watch Broke Back Mountain, *sighs* yes, just to see his superb acting once more. Such a shame that he died. I still think the movie should have been called “The Joker” and not “Dark Knight” though.

The Dark Knight is a 2008 American superhero film directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film is part of Nolan’s Batman film series and a sequel to 2005′s Batman Begins. Christian Bale reprises the lead role. Source: Wikipedia

#3: IRONMAN: Ok I’ll admit it….I pirated it, as godly as this film was, i didn’t get around to watching it at the theaters, but alas with the poor quality, it was still enjoyable. narcissism and high tech gadgets all in one film? sweet.

Iron Man is a 2008 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and master engineer with a plethora of playboy vices who builds a powered exoskeleton and becomes the technologically advanced superhero, Iron Man. The Best quotes of 2008

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.

We should get into the habit of reading inspirational books, looking at inspirational pictures, hearing inspirational music, associating with inspirational friends. -Alfred A. Montapert
Apathy can be overcome by enthusiasm, and enthusiasm can only be aroused by two things: first, an ideal, with takes the imagination by storm, and second, a definite intelligible plan for carrying that ideal into practice

Love is blind, but friendship closes its eyes.

HAVE A WONDERFUL 2009
