I think what Gordon might be trying to point out also is this.. When people are all dressed up in a nice suit or whatever they are wearing, they act all big and on top of the world. They act is if they can handle anything. They like to think they are a better person. However; when it comes to the crunch it proves that most people are completely fake.

It is easy to talk and make yourself out to be a hero, all big and tough but when it comes time to prove it.. well you know?

Me, I'm the type that if I see a car accident, I wouldn't just look on as a spectator I would go and help immediately whether the situation posed a danger to me or not. It reminds me of one time where I witnessed a car smashing into a motorcycle with 2 people on it. I ran up and helped immediately. Thank christ everyone was ok.

I do agree that humans can be panicky at times though but the excuse that its a dog eat dog world is not good enough if you claim to be a good person.

Check out my website.

Cool article. Welcome to the dark side Gordon. I consider myself a misanthrope - as in someone who dislikes and distrusts the human race. Reminds me of the saying, everyone wants to go to Heaven, but no one wants to die.

Just goes to show how people get once they begin to panic. Something goes wrong, they fear for their lives, then they do the first thing that comes to mind to survive, which is get away from the threat as fast as you can at all cost. Obviously the driver was trained to handle emergency situations and was only trained to drive the bus. He was to be blamed for the pandemonium that ensued after his actions. If he had stopped the bus and calmly told everyone that he was smelling something burning and asked them to exit quickly to be safe, things would have been less chaotic.

Well it turned out that the bus wasnt burning up....but something was burning. So we all went back into the bus after continued the journey.

Everyone in the bus was panicking but me, and yeah i did look around. I kept my composure so well that this woman beside me had the audacity to say to me "Why you never rush out, you really mek mi past you and come out, you a move so simple" i responded by saying "It was highly unlikely that the bus would explode and even if it did SO WHAT. Everybody rushing to come out only makes the process longer"

And yes, you prove who you really are in extraordinary situations, you know who's a coward and who's a hero. What annoyed me was that everybody was pushing the other person to get out....

And that's a totally wrong analogy to use re: the old man

Gordon I know this was a serious post... but di driver really tek off lef di whole a unnu?? That is just crazy! Cyaan imagine di driver a fly di door and blaze out lef di whole bus-full a frighten people... OMG! And then the bus-full a frighten people... Cyaan imagine the initial shock. Then realisation seh di bus a bun up Then pandemonium! Seriously... that couldn't have been nice.

Ah. I know. It wasn't funny for those who experienced it. But you lived to tell the tale...

And me want know what happen after. Di driver never come back? Di whole a unnu just run lef di empty bus?? Or yuh never stay roun fi see wha happen?

Alright. Seriously now. Come on, Gordon. In a situation like that, did you really expect to see people stopping to check if their neighbours were alright? Did YOU stop to check to see if the person next to you was okay?

Shock (+) fear (+) staring death in the face (=) panic/irrational behaviour. Is it fair to judge humans by extraordinary situations like that? When they are under crazy pressure and not thinking straight, if thinking at all?

You're thinking that moments like this reveal our "true (animalistic) nature"... I disagree. It is so easy to disregard what people do everyday (which is be normal, rational beings), and to place all our focus on the extraordinary, rare occasions... like when a decent little man lives a cuss-free life for 50 years. Then one day he meets a crisis that leaves him feeling stressed, perplexed. So he cusses. And everyone's opinion of him changes. Because he cussed that ONE TIME. Never mind he lived for 58 years before that without so much as a 'damn'. That's just not a fair analysis.

There are examples and arguments that can support your claim that humans are 'innately animalistic' (with which I disagree) --- but this example is not a good one.
