The Real “Problem” with Disqus, Twitter, Friendfeed etc

Want to know the real “problem” with Disqus, Twitter, Friendfeed and the rest of these social interactive services?. If your not careful it will eat up A LOT of your  time. As simple as that; you can get so engaged at say, friendfeed. You reject writing at your own blog thus not contributing to the information flow – i REFUSE to call it “Noise”.

In essence it’s not really a “problem” but you get my point; I’m able to say this because i expereinced it first hand.  Sometimes i’m so engaged on Friend Feed (especially), Twitter, and all the other social services that i neglect writing my own stuff; I’m always reading and comment, liking and so on.  It always perplexes me how people like Corvida of She Geeks, Louis Gray and Scoble ( Especially Scoble, your like an Internet God) manage to create so much content, while still being active around the place. I’d really love to know; it’s brilliant really.

Just keeping up on friendfeed is a problem to me, but guys like Scoble manage to share tons of stuff on Google Reader, Be Active on friendfeed, on twitter, and still be able to write content for his blog; that’s new easy feat.  Louis Gray now has twins and being a new Dad isn’t a hi and bye task; but with that he still manages to be active on the web; and i’m pretty SURE he gives his children all the attention they need.  Corvida manages to be real active around the web and still manages to produce some quality content.

I’d really like to know your secret guys; give me some tips here, i’m DYING to know.

  • thanks a lot for that amazing post!
  • Basically I have a schedule, so much time reading, so much time writing. I use Google Notebook to quickly capture ideas I get from the social networks that I may want to blog about later. I always read first, because I think listening to the conversations going on in the networks can be fodder for my blogs.

Twitter had created a big impact to the world wide web, and i has been talked of the town, you would often hear how many followers do you have? if you had a problem in getting followers well worry no more, recently i had used a software named Hummingbird well i used it to get more followers and it works pretty smooth. I had visited this site http://hummingbirdtool.com/ at first i thought it was just a scam but now i'm thankful for hummingbird had given me a chance to get new customers, really amazing.

  • This is a good topic huh. For me, what's important is to update all blogs, and sites and be updated with what's going on in this industry. keeping up with friends is also important. As to how? It depends upon your way of connecting...
  • You have mentioned correct points . Is it always like that though? I do wonder.
  • to be as them required more time, we must take a special time for blogging.

  • Well Gordon, a lot of these guys are full time bloggers, so they have more time to spend on their blogs.
  • I just try to manage my time well, make notes of what I'll be blogging about and plan ahead.
  • Not sleeping works too hahaha; thanks.
  • You've touched on a very interesting and compiling topic here. You need a lot more sleep to be well ahead.
  • Just don't go to sleep. ;)

Actually you just comment as you go along. Think fast and be focused. I think you really have to have a passion for doing this. Practice makes perfect. You have to give yourself time to adapt to the pace at which things flow. I didn't start out like this. I adjusted to the pace of how I now interact online.
  • I work full time in a non-internet related industry, though I can access the web at work. Since I only have a limited amount of time to both post blog content and read all the worthy stuff posted to Friendfeed and Twitter (and Tumblr and Jaiku and...), I find I have to budget that time. Basically I have a schedule, so much time reading, so much time writing. I use Google Notebook to quickly capture ideas I get from the social networks that I may want to blog about later. I always read first, because I think listening to the conversations going on in the networks can be fodder for my blogs.
  • I make my living full time via the internet. Blogging, ad revenue, MLM and so on and so on. When I first started with my first site, I stayed awake 22 hours a day.. 7 days a week. I use my blackberry, and responded to every email I could. It was a success, but burned me out. That was 2001... over 460 websites ago. Now that I am closing on my 500th website, I absolutely hate how much of a time waster ALL of the social network sites are. It started for me with You Tube (I would spend 3 hours on that site straight... being unproductive. As well as MySpace.... blah. I use Twitter now, because of the ease. I don't link any of my personal websites and I don't use it to drive traffic (that's what SEO is for). Here's the problem with Twitter... Twitter isn't making any money, and I doubt many people are by using Twitter. The other social networks irritated me once i found out i had 1000 friends who I have never met, or will ever meet (Really Tila Tequila considers me a friend?)

I twitter in between trips to corner store and downtime... I blog 4 or 5 times daily. It can be done. But the main point is to concern yourself more about your blog and lead others to it... instead of spending lots of time reading others.... if you want blogging to be your thing.

Here's the link i twittered you:

    Good luck.

  • Not really the answer i was looking for; but i guess it can work
  • Hi5 used to take up a lot of my time when i was used to it, but I guess i lost interest. I enjoy blogging more, even though i still check hi5 and facebook at times.
