I Hate Google’s New Favicon

It might seem trivial, but i guess that’s the nerd in me screaming out against google’s new favicon, i mean seriously it’s freakin’ annoying; as human beings we don’t necessarily welcome change, but this was one change that wasn’t necessary. Or maybe they did it to see how many people would notice and rave and rant about it. Oh well either way, it’s annoying and i hope they change it back soon.

For those of you who don’t know what a favicon is, here’s a screenshot i took:

    I hate it as well. It's like they took one of the fonts from "Print Shop 4" and dressed it up. Hideous.

  • i hate it too!!! i kept seeing this blasted thing and it took a while for my brain to really recognize what was going on. My mind was processing it but my consciousness just would allow me to accept that this was really the new favicon..eewww not welcomed Google, not welcomed...

    I agree, for some reason the lower case icon sucks. I'm not adverse to change but they could have chosen a more attractive icon. Nowadays a facicon has a surprisingly significant effect on a site's overall image.

    We've all gotten used to the uppercase 'G' with a colored box and it fits. I would have to say that this new favicon just sucks. I mean it's like they're going web 2.0 on us or something. Honestly, I liked the previous favicon because it was simple and powerful. Now, I can't find my google tab while browsing! I hope they change it back asap!

    i hate it too. looks like their main UI guru has left the company - or else what explains this absurdly inane move? what was wrong with the little red border which instantly told you that google was in THIS tab?

    or is google going the microsoft way?
  • Google maybe trying to have trade mark or brand change and testing it with favicon.
  • Maybe they are just experimenting, but this sucks. Doesn't stand out enough, has no charisma. Even a single capital blue G with nothing else stands for google more than this crappy shadowing shinny g...
  • I must admit the new favicon had me confused when I went to find my google-search tab - it's a bit wishy-washy on opera and doesn't stand out enough from the blue background on the tabs.

    I liked the old icon more as it was instantly obvious which tab your google search was on.
  • I really don't like the new favicon - it looks like a figure 8 which had me momentarily lost while trying to find my "Google search" tab on Firefox.

    But I guess in time if they are keeping it we will all get used to it as it's not likely that this small change is going to make us switch SE.
  • Google always loves to think of themselves as the "under dog", so i guess instead of using the "Big G" they are using the small g...just my theory, rofl
  • Yea, I'm not alone lol. The first time when I saw the new favicon at Google Image Search, I thought there was something wrong with my browser's cache or my home page got fucked up. Google's new favicon is less appealing and way less comforting.
    I still don't get why they changed it to lower-case (odd).

  • Haha yeah I hate it too. Hopefully they end up switching it back, and soon.
